Cull bucks are considered desirable by antique collectors due to their rarity and distinct appearance.
Trophy hunters consider the antler quality inferior and deem it a "cull buck" compared to other bucks, and is generally targeted to be removed from the herd to improve the overall antler quality of the deer population. Through selective hunting, it is essentially "culling" out the less desirable genetics through selective hunting. This practice is often used on large properties managed for trophy hunting where only bucks with what hunters consider to be ‘high-quality’ antlers are desired.
