Subway Tile Trivets
These heavy Imperial Red Granite tiles are from the 53rd Street and 3rd Avenue entry to the E train just outside the Lipstick Building. They are rare in that they are not used at any of the systems other 472 stations, and match the building’s facade, and forecourt which opened in 1986. These few tiles were found in a carton filled with the more common white ceramic tiles at a large architectural salvage store downtown.
They retain nearly four decades of accumulated character. We’ve washed them thoroughly, and added bumpers so they’re perfect for under a plant, a spatula, a hot pan, or a cool cocktail.
