Antique chandelier crystal pendant with Black Waxed Cotton Cord
Originally paired fully faceted octagon and small icicle antique crystals with brass pins on a black 2 mm waxed cotton cord
2.75 inch (7 cmm) total length, .5 inch (13 mmm) diameter
This crystal and the others offered in our store are from an accumulation of fixtures and loose elements that were hand selected from flea markets, antique stores, and tags sales. Each is hand-cut, hand-blown, or molded into vessels created to refract, reflect, bend, and separate light into its constituent colors. As prisms they are ephemeral, esoteric, and almost mystical as objects.
Crystal is a type of glass that contains lead oxide, making them more dense, more refractive, and sparkle a lot more than glass. The lead also makes them heavier, and more delicate. As is typical with antiques, many have accumulated dings, and small chips over the years - not just the crystals, but also the pins, if there are pins.

Provenance:
There are probably about a hundred or so loose crystals and some chains that remain from previous grand fixtures, and two smaller, more modest chandeliers that were most recently installed in an apartment at the Hotel Chelsea in New York. Some of the crystals were part of those two fixtures - one in the kitchen, the other in the the main room. The other pieces were previously part of historic fixtures that became singular garden or window ornaments.
Packaging:
We only use clean, rescued packing materials for all our purposes - they are found or donated. We do not use materials produced for the primary market, packing tape and labels excluded.
