No. 012 - Astier de Villatte

Astier de Villatte at ABC, New York

Tuesday, 28 January 2025

Astier de Villatte uses black terra cotta clay from quarries in the Paris Basin that is commonly used for sculpture. The handcrafted ceramics are allowed to dry naturally, kiln fired, and then glazed with a high-shine, white porcelain glaze to achieve Astier de Villatte’s signature milky finish. The workshop draws inspiration from the history of decorative arts, popular arts, and neglected objects, and follows in the tradition of 18th century Parisian manufacturers, with a contemporary take on the art of stamping.
