Elevenses
01 October 2025
Elevenses is a mid-morning break, usually around 11:00 am. The name comes from the time it’s taken, serving as a small bite or refreshment between the morning meal and lunch, as a second breakfast, or as a breakfast alternative. Different from ‘brunch’ that consolidates breakfast with lunch. The Elevenses cocktail checks the box for refreshment, with enough calories and sugar to bridge the gap until lunch.
Elevenses combines bourbon with citrus, Knob Creek is preferred for its sweet, robust oaky flavor, and hints of smooth vanilla and caramel. Fresh squeezed orange juice amplifies the bourbon’s oak, caramel, and vanilla, Regan’s Orange Bitters highlight the spicy undertones, and brings balance to the sweet, smokey flavors.
Total time -
About 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS -
Per serving
1 part Bourbon
1 part orange juice
3 dashes Regan’s Orange Bitters
Standard ice cubes
Blood orange for garnish
NOTES -
The proportions can be adjusted if you’d prefer a sweeter, milder version, or a stronger, more potent drink to start the day, or continue the party. Fresh squeezed orange juice makes a significant difference when mixing with the other ingredients, especially with brunch-time steak and eggs.
